Taxi consultation

The structure of the hackney carriage fleet (black cabs) in Slough, and the provision of taxi ranking facilities.

For years there were two wheelchair accessible taxis in a fleet of 66 vehicles licensed by the local authority.

In 2005, Slough Borough Council took the decision to deregulate the Hackney Carriage trade and so the number of licensed vehicles has since risen to 103 Hackney Carriages, of these:

• 53 are either wheelchair accessible or purpose built vehicles
• 50 Hackney Carriages are saloon vehicles

The local authority also want all new and replacement vehicles to be:

• wheelchair accessible
• comply with specific requirements to meet the needs of people with disabilities

This policy means all Hackney Carriages will, over time, become wheelchair accessible. 

We want to get your views:

• as to whether the local authority should now think about relaxing this policy
• on the provision of taxi ranking facilities in the town
