New UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services

From 9 November 2018, the majority of customers will complete their applications online and then attend one of 57 new service centres in the UK named UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services, managed by a commercial partner, Sopra Steria.

Customers will attend an appointment at a service centre to submit their biometric information (photo and fingerprints), and supporting evidence (including proof of identity). Learn more about the new services.

  • As of 30 November 2018, local authorities will stop offering the Settlement Checking Service and Nationality Document Return Service. Customers can now apply via gov.uk.
  • As of 31 December 2018, local authorities will stop providing the Nationality Checking Service. Customers can now apply online via gov.uk.

Assisted Digital Service

UKVI have set up an Assisted Digital support service that is available to customers who do not have the appropriate access, skills or confidence to complete an online application form. The Assisted Digital Service aims to ensure that nobody is excluded from making an immigration application due to lack of digital skills or access to a computer.

Eligible customers are offered telephone support, or face to face support at a library or their home, to help them access and complete the online form. This service does not provide immigration advice.

Checking service - until 31 December 2018

We offer a checking service to assist individuals who want to apply for British Citizenship. The aim of the service is to help reduce unnecessary delays in the process of applying for British Citizenship.

Our team is registered with the Office of Immigration Service Commissioner (OISC).

You do not have to use us – you can apply direct to the Home Office or use a solicitor or other agent. If you do choose to do this, make sure that they are properly qualified to give you advice and are registered with the OISC (Solicitors and others registered with the Law Society do not have to be registered with the OISC).

As part of the service we will ensure that:

  • your application forms are completed correctly 
  • you have provided the necessary documents that are needed to support your application
  • all documents you provide will be copied and certified and your original documents returned to you 
  • all applications and associated documents are sent to UK Visas and Immigration by guaranteed next day special delivery.

The Slough Borough Council Nationality Checking Service does not and cannot guarantee that UK Visas and Immigration will approve an application for British Citizenship, as UK Visas and Immigration deals with each application on its own merits.

How do I book an appointment?

The Nationality Checking Service operates on an appointment only basis.

You can book in person at Slough Register Office or by telephone - 01753 787600, if necessary please leave your full name and telephone number on the answer machine and a member of the team will return your call as soon as possible.

How much does an appointment cost?

Weekday appointments (business hours)

Adult or Minor - £85

Evening and weekend appointments (subject to availability and change)

Adult or Minor - £130

Fees apply from 1 April 2018.

Your appointment

Nationality Checking Service appointments take place at Slough Register Office.

Your appointment will take approximately 30 minutes to an hour depending on how many applications are being checked.

When you attend your appointment you must:

  • attend in person (if you are married or in a civil partnership and want to make a joint application, both of you must attend)
    Children under 18 need not attend
  • Bring your completed citizenship application form / forms and all associated supporting documents with you.

NB: It remains your responsibility to read the guidance notes which are supplied by UK Visas and Immigration, which are available on their website and for you to ensure that you are able to provide the required documents as evidence to support your application.
If your application in incomplete or documents are missing, you may need to book a further appointment and a further administration cost of £25 will be charged.
