Following the Metropolitan Police Service’s statement that a Hotpoint FF175BP fridge freezer has been identified as the initial source of the Grenfell Tower fire, the Government has ordered an immediate examination of the unit by technical experts to establish the cause of the incident.
This product, which was manufactured between 2006 and 2009, has not been subject to product recalls and this testing will establish whether any further action is required.
If you believe you may own a Hotpoint fridge freezer model number FF175BP (white) or FF175BG (grey) you should call Whirlpool Corporation’s freephone hotline on 0800 316 3826 or visit their website to register for further updates.
At this stage there is no specific reason for consumers to switch off their fridge freezer pending further investigation.
Important product recalls are below
The following notice has been issued by the manufacturer:
Risk of spontaneous glass breakage
We have registered a level of spontaneous glass breakage in a specific type of small pane produced and sold between 1997 and 2003. Under specific conditions, generally experienced in the winter, there is a minor risk that the inner glass may break spontaneously, with the possibility of glass fragments falling.
VELUX takes the quality of our products seriously and have decided to issue a product warning to inform our customers.
To determine whether you have one of the panes in question in your roof window, please follow these steps:
|1 Check pane width||2 Rotate window||3 Locate and note pane code|
1.) Check whether the width of your pane is 39 cm (15.5 in) or less. If it is, please continue to step 2. If it is wider than 39 cm (15.5 in), your pane is not affected by the product warning.
2.) Open the window and turn it through 180° to its cleaning position.
3.) Locate the pane code on the spacer (metal strip) inside the pane and write it down. Affected panes are those that have the numbers OOUE, 59 or 34 in combination with the number 8 or the letter y as part of the pane code between the stars.
4) Go to www.velux-pw.co.uk (opens in a new window) and enter the pane code. You will get an immediate answer as to whether your pane is affected and - if so - what you can choose to do about it.
If you cannot access the internet, please call us on 0800 980 7030 with the pane code and we will advise you what choices are available to you. This line is available from 8am - 9pm, 7 days a week.
