Coronavirus effects on schools, early years settings and children's centres

Updated:1 September 2021

Welcoming children and young people back to school and college this term

Key advice:

  • Participate in the on-site secondary school or college testing at the start of term
  • Test twice a week at home through September
  • If you are 16 or 17 years old get vaccinated as soon as possible – ideally before you go back to school or college.

Schools and colleges have a range of measures in place to manage COVID-19. Including testing, ventilation and hygiene. A positive case should no longer mean the sort of measures that we saw throughout the last academic year. If a child or young person has been identified as a close contact, they will be advised to take a PCR test. They will not have to self-isolate, unless they have a positive PCR test result.
