What is an abandoned vehicle?
Slough Borough Council investigates reports of vehicles that may have been abandoned on land in the open air, including public highways and private land.
Not all unwanted or nuisance vehicles are abandoned. A vehicle parked in the same location for a few days is unlikely to be considered abandoned, even if it causes concern to local residents.
There is no single factor that determines whether a vehicle is abandoned.
Each report is assessed individually, taking into account a range of factors including:
- how long the vehicle has remained in the same location
- the overall condition of the vehicle
- whether the vehicle appears to be in use
- vehicle tax and MOT status
- information provided by residents and local enquiries.
A vehicle may be considered abandoned if it has one or more of the following characteristics:
- flat or deflated tyres
- broken windows or significant damage
- missing parts or poor overall condition
- a substantial build-up of dirt, debris, or vegetation around the vehicle
- evidence that it has not been moved for an extended period, typically over one month.
