Why register on Google Maps?

Registering your details on Google Maps is a simple and straightforward way to raise the online profile of your organisation, group or charity.

It will also make it easier for residents to independently find and make use of the diverse range of services available to them throughout Slough. Additionally it can enable organisations that are supporting people, to signpost individuals to relevant groups and services.

By having a Google Maps listing, the benefits include:

  • increasing awareness of your organisation online
  • making it easier for the public to find your details, understanding what your services offer and how to access them
  • improving your visibility on the internet, so individuals are more likely to find you when searching the internet.

Details you can include in your listing

Once you’re registered, Google will list your organisation’s location, display your organisation’s hours, photographs, general information and user reviews. This assists in enhancing the visibility of your organisation on internet searches further.

Information needed to register on Google Maps

In preparation for adding your details, you will need the following:

  • the name of the organisation
  • a Google/Gmail account - help is available to create one, if assistance is required
  • your organisation’s category – for example: advice service, voluntary organisation or social group
  • the address the organisation operates from
  • the organisation’s contact telephone number
  • the organisation’s website link (if you have one)
  • details on opening hours, times of meetings and events etc
  • photos to add to your Google Maps entry.

Promote your activities on Open Sessions

What is Open Sessions?

Do you run regular sessions or opportunities for people to take part in something? Such as a yoga class, walking group or social club?

If so, you can promote your activities for free on the Open Sessions platform.

This website will complement your Google Maps listing, providing a unique and innovative way of advertising the sessional-based programmes you run.

It will also allow your activities to be openly searchable across the internet, as well as appear on a new activity finder being developed by the Public Health team. The activity finder works like a search engine bar, allowing users to search for activities in their local postcode area.

Register for Open Sessions

To start promoting your activities, register for Open Sessions. Once you have an account, you can start uploading details of your sessions to the site.
