Applying for a home

Housing register

When social homes become available, we offer them to people on the housing register. If you want to apply for a home, you must apply to join the housing register.

Not everyone can join the housing register. The following pages explain who can and cannot join the housing register.

The housing register is split into priority bands, based on your situation and needs. We offer social homes to the people on the housing register who have been waiting the longest in each band.

There are many more people waiting for a social home than there are properties available. Most people on the housing register will never be offered a home. You should consider your other options, which include private rented housing.

To find out how many people are waiting on our housing register, read the homeseekers newsletter.
