Grant (new) and renewal applications
All grant and renewal applications are made by completing the online forms.
The application form requires;
- DVLA check code
- A colour copy of your DVLA drivers licence (front and back)
- DBS certificate number (DBS certificate must be registered with the DBS Update Service)
- Tax check code from the HMRC website (renewal application only)
Applications to renew a licence must be made before the expiry (up to 30 days before). Renewal applications submitted after the licence has expired will be rejected and a new, grant applications must be made.

Make a payment
Do not make any payment if you are a new applicant submitting a grant application. Payment will be requested once your application has been checked and verified.
The private hire fees and payments page gives more details. You will be prompted to make a payment once you have submitted your form. Payment must be made through our payments system:
You can pay for more than one licence in a single transaction. Please keep your payment receipt number for your records.
What happens now?
Grant applications will to be checked and verified. You will be contacted within 10 working days following the submission of your application.
Renewal applications will be checked and processed within 10 working days and posted to your home address.
All applicants will receive an automated email from licensing confirming the application has been submitted.
You must make a note of your application reference number and note the date you submitted the application.
Please quote your full name, licence type, licence number (if applicable) and application reference number on all correspondence relating to the application.
Incorrect or incomplete applications will be rejected.Do not make any payment if you are a new applicant submitting a grant application. Payment will be requested once your application has been checked and your ID documentation verified.
