A community action day will have a host of activities and will officially launch Safer Cippenham.
Safer Cippenham will be following in the footsteps of Safer Langley, which has brought real partnership working to benefit the community. It is part of the Home Office’s Clear, Hold, Build, plan to tackle serious organised crime in communities.
Children in Cippenham schools have been asked to design a logo for Safer Cippenham, and these will be displayed on the day, with votes to decide the winner.
Activities at the action day will include VR headset games, colouring, hair braiding, pilates and fitness, bouncy castle, football, boxing, temporary tattoos, and a DJ.
Groups attending include the Community Detached Youth Work team, Slough Music Service, Family Hubs, Communities Against Violence, Fire Service, Cianna Smile, CARDO, Community Dental Services, Street Guardians, Love Music Hate Violence, Storyy Group, Slough Amateur Boxing Club, SENDIASS and more.
In Langley, the council, police and local organisations have been working together for more than two years, and partners still meet regularly. There are operational delivery groups which cover areas including youth engagement, education and prevention, crime and anti-social behaviour, health and wellbeing, and business, enterprise and employability.
Work will begin in earnest, led by the council’s community safety team, to set up similar operational delivery groups for Cippenham, tackling the key issues for the community.
Councillor Ejaz Ahmed, lead member for communities, sport, leisure and public protection, said: “This is the first step for Safer Cippenham and I’m excited to see how we can all work together for the benefit of the community.
“Safer Langley has shown that listening to the community concerns and working together really works and has an impact.
“This event is on the last day of the Easter half term break, and looks to be a great community day out, with lots on offer, so do come along and join in if you can.”
All the activities are free.
The community action day is on Friday 10 April, from 11am-3pm at Cippenham School, Elmshott Lane, SL1 5RB.
