February 14 is just next week and lovers, and those hopeful for love, are making plans for a night of romance.
But, Slough Borough Council’s food safety team is urging the town’s romancers to check the food hygiene rating of food premises before booking that candlelit table or takeaway for that cosy night in.
Food hygiene ratings are given after detailed inspections by the food safety team and are available on a national database at ratings.food.gov.uk
A rating of five shows an excellence in the hygiene of the property where as a zero or one rating shows there needs to be many improvements to the way the shop or business prepares and stores food as well as the hygiene and facilities and training of staff. It doesn’t cover food quality or customer service.
The food safety team recommend choosing premises with a rating of three or above.
Councillor Pavitar K Mann, lead member for regulation and consumer protection, said: “There is nothing less romantic than a horrible stomach bug so if you are picking a restaurant for a big date or a takeaway for the sofa, make sure you check the food hygiene ratings.
“It is quick and easy to do online so you can do all you can to make sure your Valentine’s Day is filled with love and not lurgies.”
