Local planning authorities are required to keep a Brownfield Land Register (BLR). This is under the Town and Country Planning (Brownfield Land Register) Regulations 2017. The register identifies previously developed land that is suitable, available and achievable for housing-led development.
The BLR must be reviewed at least once a year to make sure it reflects the most up-to-date information on brownfield sites within the borough. Updated government guidance encourages councils to add new brownfield sites as soon as they are identified, so the information remains accurate and accessible.
As part of this process, the council will update its evidence base through the Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA). The HELAA reviews land availability across a wide range of sources, including existing Local Plan allocations, planning permissions, Call for Sites submissions and other known development opportunities. This makes sure all suitable brownfield land is identified comprehensively.
Following completion of the HELAA, the findings will be used to prepare a refreshed BLR in line with national data standards. This will ensure the BLR is informed by robust, up-to date evidence and provide clear, accessible information on potential development sites across Slough.

Please email PlanningPolicy@slough.gov.uk if you have any queries, or would like to submit a site to be included in the BLR.
Slough's current BLR is within the Schedule of Part 1 Slough Brownfield Sites, which will be updated to reflect the refreshed BLR once the HELAA work is completed.
