Equality impact assessments

Before major decisions are made, policy makers must assess how these will impact our staff and/or service users.

Policies may affect different groups of people in different ways, and they may have an adverse or negative impact. This must be identified and wherever possible addressed.

The Equality Act 2010 legally requires public authorities to show they have paid “due regard” to the equality implications of their decisions.  We do this through conducting Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs). All reports which go to Cabinet ( the primary decision-making committee of the council),  include a section which outlines these equality considerations. For most decisions, an EIA will also be published.
