Community Asset Transfer (CAT) Policy

Community Asset Transfer (CAT) policy

Slough Borough Council wants to make sure that local buildings and land continue to benefit the community. Our Community Asset Transfer (CAT) policy allows eligible community organisations, subject to an approved business case, to take on Council-owned buildings or land to run services, projects, or activities for local people.

Why apply?

A community asset transfer gives you the opportunity to:

  • protect spaces that matter to your community
  • deliver services locally
  • create new opportunities for residents.

Why this is important

  • It saves money for the Council and keeps important spaces in use
  • It gives local groups more control over community buildings and land
  • It helps prevent places being sold or left empty
  • It supports ideas such as community hubs and shared facilities

What the benefits are for the community

  • Stronger and more connected communities
  • Local services that continue to operate
  • More opportunities for volunteering and community enterprise
  • Greater independence for community organisations

How to apply

  1. Check if you are eligible: your organisation should be community-based, not-for-profit, and able to show public benefit.
  2. Complete the Community Asset Transfer application documentations: include information about your organisation, your plans for the building or land, how you will fund and sustain the proposal, and evidence of community needs.
  3. Email us your application: submit your completed documents, and any additional supporting documents to this email assetmanagement@slough.gov.uk.
