Best Value Commissioners

On 1 December 2021, Kemi Badenoch MP, Minister of State for Equalities and Levelling Up Communities, confirmed in a written ministerial statement to Parliament that the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and  Communities, The Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, had appointed Commissioners to intervene at Slough Borough Council. A further commissioner was appointed on 11 January 2022.

 Lee Rowley MP, Minister for Local Government and Building Safety made a written statement on 16 March 2023 to update Parliament on the intervention

These appointments were made following the completion of an external assurance review into the council’s financial position and governance arrangements which was published on 25 October. The review provided evidence that the council was failing in its Best Value Duty under the Local Government Act 1999.
