A personal licence authorises a specified person to supply alcohol or allow the supply of alcohol at a licensed premise.
Application requirements
You must apply to the licensing authority where you live and not in the district in which you work. To make an application you must:
- be over 18 years of age
- have the right to work in the UK
- not have any relevant or foreign criminal convictions as perscribed in the Licensing Act 2003
- have an approved licensing qualification
- pay £37 fee - include your initials and surname as reference.

Making an application
Apply for a basic Disclosure & Barring Service Certificate - please note, the certificate must be less than one month old at the time of submission.
You will need to submit both an application form and a disclsoure of convictions declaration. Please refer to the application check list on the application form to make sure you have met all the application requirments and have provided the necessary documentation including an endorsed passport photograph.

- Grant: £37 - Statutory.
- Notice of change of name and address: £10.50 - Statutory.
- Application for copy of lost or stolen Personal Licence: £10.50 (each copy) - Statutory.

Updating your name or address
If you have changed your name or address or both, you will need to inform us of your updated details using the Report a licence change of circumstances.
There is a statutory charge of £10.50 for this service. Details on how to pay will be at the end of the form.
