The Colnbrook and Poyle 20mph speed limit and traffic calming measures on Horton Road Scheme Consultation will:
- start on 7 November 2025 and
- close on 28 November 2025.
What we are proposing
Our proposed design is to introduce a targeted 20mph speed limit for 35 specific roads in Colnbrook and Poyle area and traffic calming measures on the existing 30mph speed limit on Horton Road. The traffic calming measures would be on the section starting from 50m of its junction with Popes Close towards its junction with Bath Road/Colnbrook High Street and will include the introduction of speed humps, rumble strips and vehicle activated signage to improve compliance, increase driver awareness, and enhance road safety on the residential section of Horton Road.
After the consultation exercise, officers will review the consultation feedback and if there are no objections, we will introduce the works under a permanent traffic regulation order.
Why we are proposing this
Since 2022, the Colnbrook Community Association, local Councillors and the Parish Council have been communicating with the Transport Team to find ways to introduce a 20mph speed limit scheme in Colnbrook and Poyle area. The local members approached the council to take the scheme forward and include the following road:
- Popes Close
- Moreland Avenue
- Moreland Close
- Drift Way
- Beacon Court
- Brookside Road
- Willow Close
- Rayner Close
- London Road (From a distance 5 metres east of its junction with Crown Meadow to its Junction with Horton Road)
- Crown Close
- High Street Colnbrook
- Bridge Street
- Park Street
- Bath Road (From its junction with Albany Park to a point 80 metres east of its junction with Meadowbrook Close)
- Vicarage Way
- Mill Street Road
- Albany Park Road
- Tall Trees Road
- Dawley Ride Road
- Coleridge Crescent
- Hunstanton Close
- St Thomas Walk
- Aintree Close
- Winchester Close
- Raymond Close
- Rodney Way
- Laurel Close
- Fawsley Close
- Myrtle Close
- The Hawthorns
- Daventry Close
- Polar Close
- Sherborne Close
- Ingleside Road
- Meadowbrook Close.
Officers have also received representations from residents of Horton Road regarding ongoing concerns about vehicle speeds in the area. We then carried out a speed survey to assess current driver behaviour. The results indicated 85% of vehicles were travelling more than the posted 30mph speed limit. To address these findings and enhance compliance with the existing speed limit, particularly within the residential section of Horton Road, officers are proposing the installation of traffic calming measures alongside vehicle-activated signage.
These interventions aim to reinforce speed awareness and improve overall road safety for residents and other road users.
