Project overview
We are transforming one of Slough’s busiest streets to make it safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable for everyone.
In February 2023, Slough Borough Council received £9.3 million from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) to deliver the Destination Farnham Road scheme.
This funding is dedicated to improving the Farnham Road area, one of Slough’s most busiest and most diverse streets. The project will create a high-quality public space that will improve road safety, support businesses and create a better environment for residents and visitors.
Initial works are expected to start on 17 November 2025.
Project aims
The Destination Farnham Road project will:
- support the local economy and help create new jobs
- improve the area for residents, businesses, and visitors
- reduce the effects of traffic, congestion and overcrowding
- improve safety and quality of life for people living and working nearby.
It also responds to local concerns about:
- traffic and parking pressure
- illegal and inconsiderate parking
- rubbish and street cleanliness
- anti-social behaviour and safety concerns
- poor air quality and environmental health
- pedestrian and cyclist safety.
What is changing
We will be upgrading Farnham Road and surrounding streets with:
- a 20mph speed limit through the shopping area to improve safety
- a new off-road, two-way cycle route
- better pedestrian crossings and improved pavements
- upgraded street lighting where needed
- improved bus stops and facilities
- better parking facilities
- enhancements to the small park at the Sheffield Road junction
- improvements to Sheffield Road car park
- widened cycle lanes and road upgrades on Sheffield Road
- a cycle-friendly street along Furnival Avenue
- sustainable drainage systems to manage surface water more effectively.
Who will be affected
The project will benefit and involve:
- local residents
- road users and commuters
- businesses and shop owners
- public transport users
- councillors and council staff
- neighbouring authorities
- SEGRO and other key partners.

Managing disruption
We know that works on a busy street like Farnham Road may cause some short-term disruption.
Possible impacts include:
- reduced access for businesses or temporary loss of income
- noise or inconvenience for residents
- delays for public transport users.
We will reduce disruption by:
- publishing regular progress reports and construction updates
- clearly communicating all road closures and diversions in advance
- working with bus and transport providers to minimise delays.
Your patience and support will help us deliver lasting improvements for the whole community.
