Spruce up with planters and hanging baskets

Planters have been added to the middle of a busy road to improve the area and raise spirits.

The planters are on the central reservation of Broadmark Road after two Wexham Lea councillors used some of their allocated Community Investment Fund, CIF, to make the improvements.

Plants surround a central miniature tree in the large pots which will provide colour and greenery year round.

Cllr Haqeeq Dar and Cllr Harjinder S. Gahir wanted to make the middle island more presentable and brighter as well as being good for the environment.

The councillors said: “We felt this would be particularly beneficial this year, with so many residents at home and in need of some extra cheer during the pandemic.

“The planters have now gone in and look great.

“They are very festive and we’ve had some really positive feedback from residents which is great to hear.”

The councillors have also used some of their CIF allocation to contribute 73 trees in Wexham Road as part of the Urban Forest initiative.

The trees include catalpa, gingko, magnolia and paulownia to provide year round colour and have been chosen for their ability to extract pollution from the environment to improve air quality.

Councillors in Baylis and Stoke have also clubbed together and used their CIF money for hanging baskets in Hawthorne Crescent.

Councillors Fiza A. Matloob, Mohammed Nazir and Sunyia Sarfraz funded the baskets which were put up in the autumn and will be a mass of spring colour next year.

Councillor Madhuri Bedi, of Foxborough Ward and Councillors Ted Plenty, Zaffar Ajaib and Harjinder K. Minhaz worked together and used CIF money for hanging baskets to brighten up Parlaunt Road too.
