Cabinet is being asked to approve improvement plan proposals for the council’s housing service.
A report, going to Cabinet tonight (Monday), outlines the core service risks and challenges, including housing management, repairs, and accommodation provision. Where necessary, urgent action to reduce the risks is already underway.
It also identifies the necessary high level improvement plan proposals to manage and improve services.
The council referred itself to the Regulator of Social Housing in February after identifying some challenges, which could potentially breach statutory or regulatory requirements, but was reassured to hear no regulatory action was necessary.
The core challenges in the housing service include management of temporary accommodation, housing maintenance and tenant and resident engagement.
Councillor Puja Bedi, lead member for transport, housing, highways, the environment and environmental services, said: “We know there are a lot of issues identified and residents may be concerned, however, our high-level improvement plan outlines our commitment to tackling these issues over the coming months.
“We have already made a good start in some areas and the options and process for reducing risk and improving the service offer will be kept under review. This will all take time, but it will be carried out with full transparency.”
