An experimental road closure is to be implemented on Littledown Road, at its junction with Stoke Road.
In 2019, Cabinet approved the implementation of Stoke Road Corridor Highway Improvement works to provide an enhanced highway transport infrastructure to support the planned regeneration projects taking place in the area.
The scheme introduced a reduction in vehicle speeds, high-quality resurfacing, and the installation of traffic signals to improve road safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians at the junction of Wellington Street and Wexham Road, and the junction of Stoke Road with Elliman Avenue and Shaggy Calf Lane, the junction of Stoke Road with Stanley Cottages and junction of Stoke Road with Mill Street.
The closure of Littledown Road at its junction with Stoke Road is expected to improve road safety for the community and road users.
Works will be happening on site from 5 May.
Access into Littledown Road will remain available via Grays Road and Stoke Gardens.
Councillor Paul Kelly, lead member for housing, highways, planning and transport, said: “Littledown Road is a side road connecting Grays Road and Stoke Road. Vehicles using this road to exit on Stoke Road currently cross a pedestrian footway, which creates a hazard for pedestrians and cyclists.
“The experimental closure will be for at least six months, and we will be asking for feedback throughout that period to see how it is impacting drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and residents.
“At the end of the trial period, the feedback will be considered to decide whether to make the closure permanent, to remove the closure, or to make any amends to the scheme.”
There will be road closed signage to advise drivers, as well as posts being installed to block access.
The survey will open from 19 May, once works on site have been completed. You can also email responses to TransportPlanning@slough.gov.uk.
