Slough Borough Council regrets to announce the death of Margaret Inniss

Slough Borough Council regrets to announce the death of Margaret Inniss, Chair of Chalvey Community Forum, Chair of Slough in Bloom, St Peter’s Church Treasurer, Chair of Governors at Montem School, and Chair at Slough Towns Women’s Guild.

Margaret passed away on 21 July, aged 87.

Born in Chelsea in 1937, the family moved to Whitton, and following her degree in horticulture, Margaret worked for the parks department at the Greater London Council (GLC), she moved to Slough in 1970, and she lived in Chalvey until 1990, moving to Langley in the 90s but still very much an active part of the community in Chalvey.

Margaret was involved in many and varied charities and organisations. One of the most recognisable was as a founding committee member of Slough in Bloom 31 years ago; a competition which is still running to this day and truly brightens up the borough. Margaret was still working on the competition as Chair as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

Margaret enjoyed helping others and was very community focused, in her earlier years she was Scout Leader.

Mayor of Slough, Councillor Siobhan Dauti, said: “On behalf of the council and the borough I wanted to recognise the valuable contribution Margaret made to the town.

“There will be many people across the borough who have met Margaret and benefitted from her volunteering roles she carried out so diligently across so many good causes. We were very lucky she gave so much time and hard work to the community.”

Margaret is survived by her son, Simon Inniss, and we send all of her family our condolences at this sad time. Margaret’s funeral will be held on 8 August at 11.30am at St Peter's Church, Chalvey, and all who knew her are welcome.
