Community Safety Day

A joint operation carried out last week, in Chalvey, involving officers from the Community Safety Team, Parking Services, Resilience and Enforcement Team, Thames Valley Police and external enforcement

This coordinated effort brought together a broad range of skills and resources to address issues previously raised, including anti-social behaviour, groups gathering, drinking, noise nuisance and driving vehicles recklessly.

During the operation, the teams engaged directly with members of the Roma community, members of the public, and local shop owners. These conversations provided an opportunity to reinforce the relevant laws, explain the consequences of offending behaviour, and deliver clear, stern verbal warnings where appropriate.

Officers also took proactive steps to improve communication and understanding, including installing new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) signs in Romanian and distributing translated leaflets to groups observed gathering in the area.

This multi-agency, prevention-focused approach was well received by those spoken with, and it enabled officers to respond directly to the concerns raised by councillors, council officers, and the police.

Councillor Ejaz Ahmed, lead member for communities, sport, leisure, and public protection, said: “This operation shows the strength of a true multi-agency approach, with council teams, police and partners working side by side. Education and prevention come first — but where behaviour does not change, enforcement will follow.

“We will review the outcomes carefully and look at how this model can be repeated or extended to other hotspots across Slough.

“I also want to thank residents and shopkeepers for continuing to report concerns, your feedback helps us target resources where they are most needed. The message is clear: anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated, and together we are determined to make Chalvey a safer, better place for all.”
