Kim Wright has been appointed as a Commissioner at Slough Borough Council.
The appointment was announced by Government today (Friday).
Kim joins the council following Ged Curran’s move last month from the Slough Commissioner team to become Lead Commissioner for Croydon Council. Kim is set to join the council at the end of November and will work alongside Lead Commissioner Gavin Jones, Managing Director Commissioner Will Tuckley, and Finance Commissioner Denise Murray.
With a career of more than 30 years in local government, including Chief Executive roles for more than six years, Kim brings a range of senior knowledge and skills to Slough. In her current role as Chief Executive at Brent Council, Kim leads a team of around 2,500 people. She has previously held the Chief Executive role at Lewisham as well as senior roles at Hackney and Barnet Councils. She has deep experience of leading programmes of change and transformation resulting in improved council services and better outcomes for residents.
Kim said: “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience and values to Slough. I will be working supportively and closely with the council’s corporate management team and local political leaders to help improve how the council works for the benefit of all in the borough.”
Cllr Dexter Smith, Leader of the Council, said: “Improving how we run our council, financial sustainability, and rebuilding trust is essential for serving our residents well. I welcome Kim to the Commissioner team and look forward to working together as we make the changes needed for now and the future.”
Will Tuckley, Chief Executive and Managing Director Commissioner, said: “After working alongside Kim as a fellow London Chief Executive, I am very pleased the Secretary of State has appointed her as a commissioner in Slough and she has agreed to share her expertise with us. We will have the added benefit of gaining from Kim’s current experience as she continues to serve as the Chief Executive of the London Borough of Brent.”
