Slough Borough Council is inviting registered community groups and charities to bid for a share of £250,000 for projects which improve the town’s physical environment.

The money is part of £1.5 million pounds given to the council by government as part of the Pride In Place Impact Fund initiative; a Great Britain-wide programme which aims to provide investment to restore pride in place, support community cohesion, and stimulate local economic activity through visible, short-term, community-led improvements.

So far, the council has allocated:

  • £500,000 for improvements to six local parks
  • £200,000 to improve cycling, walking and public access to the canal towpath
  • £350,000 for space planning and changes to the internal layout of The Curve
  • £200,000 for town centre initiatives

Now they are offering the final £250,000 to community groups and registered charities in the town.

All the money has to be spent on physical improvements – known as capital projects – rather than on activities or services.

Councillor Dexter Smith, leader of the council, said: “This funding from government gives us the opportunity to invest in the physical environment of Slough and now we are offering local community groups and charities the chance to benefit directly.

“Whether it is for making buildings more fit-for-purpose, or providing a space where people have always wanted a community garden, or a new kitchen or upgraded toilets where a group for older people meet – whatever would help your community group or charity improve their physical environment and help bring more pride to Slough, we want to hear from you.”

Bids must be from properly constituted community groups or community organisations, or registered charities and for physical projects only.

Any group wishing to bid for the funding should email the economic development team on invest@slough.gov.uk to request an application form.

All applications need to be with the team by end of the day on 16 March 2026.

Slough was one of 64 places in England who received the Pride in Place Impact Fund monies, with areas chosen based on community need, community infrastructure and deprivation indicators.
