How to register for a Self-Build home
Who can apply
You can apply to join the register if all of the following apply to you:
- You want to buy a serviced plot of land in the Council’s area to build a home (either on your own or with others)
- You plan to live in the home as your main or only residence
- You are 18 years old or over
- You are:
- A British citizen, or
- A citizen of a European Economic Area (EEA) country (excluding the UK), or
- A citizen of Switzerland
Please note: being on the Self-Build Register does not guarantee that a suitable plot of land will become available.

What happens next
If planning permission is granted for a suitable site:
- The council will ask the landowner if they want the site advertised to people on the Register
- If they agree, people on the Register will receive:
- Details of the site
- Contact information for the landowner
- You can then contact the landowner directly if you are interested in buying the land.
