Who can apply

You can apply to join the register if all of the following apply to you:

  • You want to buy a serviced plot of land in the Council’s area to build a home (either on your own or with others)
  • You plan to live in the home as your main or only residence
  • You are 18 years old or over
  • You are:
    • A British citizen, or
    • A citizen of a European Economic Area (EEA) country (excluding the UK), or

Please note: being on the Self-Build Register does not guarantee that a suitable plot of land will become available.

What happens next

If planning permission is granted for a suitable site:

  • The council will ask the landowner if they want the site advertised to people on the Register
  • If they agree, people on the Register will receive:
    • Details of the site
    • Contact information for the landowner
  • You can then contact the landowner directly if you are interested in buying the land.
