Children, young people and alcohol

An alcohol-free childhood is the healthiest and best option for a child, as alcohol can have a serious effect on their development.

Drinkaware's guide - children look to parents for guidance on alcohol explains how:

  • you can help your child to develop a sensible relationship with alcohol
  • to talk to your child and agree rules and boundaries.

Turning Point Young People's service offers a free and confidential service, for young people under 18 whose lives are affected by:

  • substance misuse
  • mental health issues and offending.

Referrals can be made by young people, their parents/carers or professionals such as teachers or social workers working with them.
