Inclusive Growth Strategy

Welcome to the new Slough Inclusive Growth Strategy 2020-25. This will:

  • drive many of the activities and services we deliver
  • be the basis to our approach as an organisation
  • be evidence-driven
  • help put the welfare and prosperity of the borough’s residents first.

Amid recent success and ambitious plans to transform the borough, we have a huge opportunity to make sure local people benefit, while we secure new investment and encourage business to ‘think’ and choose Slough. The regeneration of our town centre is a prime example. We hope the area will become a symbol of the borough’s future, projecting a positive and confident image to all.

This Strategy is targeting growth which is inclusive with:

  • well-paid and sustainable employment
  • a first-class education and skills system
  • a great living and working environment.

Yet while Slough thrives, not everyone has been able to flourish. We are focused on changing this by being data driven and accountable for our actions.

Our strategic vision

Slough will be an economy which is defined by its inclusiveness, diversity and resilience, where:

  • small businesses flourish
  • large employers invest and
  • residents can aspire and prosper.

The borough will harness:

  • the value of its international connections
  • the potential of redevelopment and regeneration to present a confident and dynamic image to the world
  • a rounded and sustainable approach to growth as key to our success.

Macroeconomic shocks are a threat and something we must be prepared for – COVID-19 is a seismic reminder of the precariousness of Slough’s success. Our economic resilience is vital to protect our small businesses, entrepreneurs and self-employed, who are the most exposed.

We developed this strategy fully aware we may need to change course. A five-year duration gives us this flexibility and I look forward to working with you to deliver the actions within.
