Volunteering in libraries

Volunteering feels great for you, and you also help your local community.  Our library service has been changed to make sure it is fit for the future of Slough, and one way we have changed is to make it easier for you to volunteer with us.

Why is volunteering so good for you?

  • It’s a great way to connect and meet with new people.  You will be working alongside our amazing staff and existing volunteers, but you will also be meeting our library users.  Volunteering could give you a whole new social network.
  • It’s good for your mind and mood.  Volunteering has been shown to make people happier, more confident and show fewer signs of mental ill health.  Doing good makes you feel good.
  • It’s good for your employment and career.  Volunteering with us will give you valuable skills that you can add to your CV.  You’ll be able to show you have experience of customer service and you’ll be practicing great communication skills.  You’ll also be able to show that you are dependable, reliable and a great team worker.
  • It’s fun and fulfilling.  Volunteering is a fun way to explore your interests and passions.  It can help you relax by offering you something different from your normal routine.  If you love reading and books, we’d love you to volunteer with us and share your passion in your community.
