Renewal applications
Driver renewal process
Renewal reminders are sent as a courtesy but it is the licence holder’s responsibility to make sure their renewal applications are submitted before the expiry date of the licence.
- Applications can be made up to 30 days in advance of the expiry date.
- Please allow 10 working days for the application to be processed, printed and posted.
- Renewal applications submitted after the expiry date has passed will be rejected.
- An application is only valid once a complete and correct application form has been submitted, along with the required payment.
- The applicant must ensure that the application form has been completed accurately. If you are unsure of a question, particularly relating to criminal convictions or anything similar, you should email licensing@slough.gov.uk for advice.
- Applications and payments are all made via the website and can be completed at any time, from any location.
- If you have any issues with submitting a renewal application, please email licensing@slough.gov.uk, before the expiry date of the licence.
- If you are due a new DBS certificate and/or a medical report, please apply for the DBS and/or make your GP appointment as soon as possible. Your renewal application will be delayed if the DBS certificate or medical is outstanding.
When emailing the licensing team regarding your application, please detail the following;
- full name
- badge number
- application reference number
- date of application.
Submitting a renewal application

You must make payment for the renewal application once you have submitted the form.

You can pay for more than one licence in a single transaction. Please keep your payment receipt number for your records.

Apply for an enhanced DBS certificate.
What happens now
All applicants will receive an automated email from the licensing team to confirm the application has been submitted. You must make a note of your application reference number and note the date you submitted the application.
Renewal applications will be checked and processed within 10 working days and posted to your home address.
Incorrect or incomplete applications will be rejected and we will email you with details of any issues.
Renewal delays
There are occasions when renewal applications are delayed. Here are some common issues experienced by applicants which may delay their renewal application along with some advice and guidance on how to avoid these issues.
Incorrect application form
Please select ‘renewal’ when completing the application form. If you select ‘grant’, the form will be rejected.
Your full name must be detailed correctly. Refer to your DVLA licence or passport if you are unsure.
Missing payments
After submitting the application form, you will then need to make payment. Ideally this should be done immediately after submitting the form. The application and payment systems are not linked, and the team must match payments to applications manually.
Failing to make the correct payment, will delay the application process. The necessary application checks will not be started until an application form and payment have been received.
Check codes issues
Please make sure the DVLA and tax check codes are detailed accurately on the form.
The DVLA check code can only be used once, please do not check if the code works as that will invalidate it.
DBS certificate
If a new DBS certificate (TaxiPlus website for drivers) and Update Service Registration (The Update Service website) is required, this process needs to be started before making a renewal application.
Medical
If a new medical report is needed, you must contact the GP where you are registered as a patient as soon as possible to make an appointment.
If you email the completed medical form, please send it as one complete PDF document. If you are unable to do this, then take the form to Observatory House in a sealed envelope addressed to Licensing. The team will then scan it and post it back to you.
Not receiving emails
Applicants should use their own email address for applications and correspondence. If there is an issue with your application, you will be informed by email. Often applicants use other peoples email addresses, which means they are not getting the emails from the licensing team and the applicant is not aware there is an issue with their application.
National Register of Taxi Licence Revocations and Refusals (NR3)
In accordance with the Department of Transports Statutory Standards for taxi licensing, all applicants are checked on the National Register of Taxi Licence Revocations and Refusals.
If there is a record relating to the applicant on the register, the renewal process will be paused until the NR3 record has been checked.
