A4 Cycle Lane

A major step forward in active travel for Slough residents.

Initial site investigation begins on 17th November 2025.

About the project

Slough Borough Council has secured £10.4 million in government funding from the Department for Transport/Active Travel England to deliver a new, mostly segregated off-road cycle lane along the A4 Bath Road corridor.

The route will run from Huntercombe Lane crossroads to Uxbridge Road in Slough. This infrastructure will make cycling safer, easier, and more attractive for people living, working, and travelling through Slough, supporting a healthier and greener town.

Where will it go?

The new two-way cycle lane, approximately 2.5 metres wide, will run alongside the A4 Bath Road between its junction with Huntercombe Lane crossroads and Uxbridge Road.

It will be delivered in three phases:

  • Phase 1: A4 Bath Road: Huntercombe Lane North to Dover Road.
  • Phase 2: A4 Bath Road: Dover Road to Pitts Road.
  • Phase 3: A4 Bath Road (via High Street and Wellington Street): Pitts Road to Uxbridge Road.

Why it matters for Slough

The A4 Cycle Lane is part of Slough’s wider strategy to:

  • reduce traffic congestion
  • improve air quality
  • encourage more active, healthy travel choices

Benefits for residents include:

  • healthier lifestyles – encouraging walking and cycling
  • cleaner air – fewer car journeys
  • improved road safety – updated infrastructure and advanced signals
  • fewer accidents – decluttered pavements and better layouts
  • reduced congestion – supporting a shift away from car dependency

Who will be affected?

The scheme is designed to benefit Slough residents and road users but will impact several groups during construction such as:

  • local residents
  • businesses and customers
  • commuters and regular road users
  • schools
  • bus operators and public transport users
  • national Highways and SEGRO.

Temporary disruption may include:

  • limited business access or impact on activity
  • delays to local bus services
  • inconvenience for drivers and pedestrians.

We will work closely with affected groups and provide regular updates to minimise disruption. Your patience and support are appreciated as we deliver long-term improvements for the community.
