High Street Langley highway widening and junction signalisation

Traffic flow

Langley High Street links businesses and residents to Langley rail station and the A4, M4 and M25. It is a popular through route for commuters and public services. Currently, High Street and Meadfield Road suffer from congestion during the AM and PM peaks. This particular affects traffic turning right out of Meadfield Road onto High Street. In the short-term, the scheme aims to reduce congestion at this key junction along High Street. This will reduce the negative environmental impacts associated with slow-moving  congested traffic, notably noise and air quality

The closure of Hollow Hill Lane will result in a re-routing of traffic onto Meadfield Road and High Street in Langley. This increased number of vehicles will make the High Street more congested. The knock-on effects of this congestion threaten to impact:

  • labour supply to local businesses
  • access to educational establishments, including Marish Primary School, Langley Hall Primary Academy and Langley College
  • connectivity to the wider business district.

Unless mitigated, these impacts will inhibit future economic prosperity.
