Archaeology and local heritage
Archaeological remains provide important evidence about past development and the growth of civilisation. These kind of remains are a finite and non-renewable resource which in many cases are highly fragile and vulnerable to damage and destruction.
The conservation of the historical environment is addressed in the National Planning Policy Framework, as well as Slough’s Local Development Plan and Developer’s Guide.

These policies encourage investigation and protection of Slough's archaeological heritage. You can find more information about Berkshire's history at the Berkshire Archaeology website.
Berkshire Historic Environment Record (HER)
You can find out more about sites or monuments of historic interest through the Historic Environment Record. Finds of archaeological interest are recorded in the Berkshire Archaeological Journal with those of sufficient quality recorded in the Berkshire Historic Environment Record.

There are two sites in Slough which are designated as Scheduled Monuments of national importance under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act of 1979. These are the:
- Montem Mound at Montem Lane
- The moated site near Cippenham Court at Wood Lane.
