Heritage, Townscape and Landscape Visual Impact Assessments (HTLVIAs)
The Windsor Castle estate and the Great Park are internationally significant heritage assets with views of the surrounding landscape. The ongoing redevelopment and regeneration of Slough town centre can affect the views of these assets and the surrounding landscape.
The Planning Team at Slough Borough Council assess and determine proposals for new developments, which include large or tall buildings to consider the visual impacts on these heritage assets, the townscape and the natural landscape.
The local planning authority has worked with Historic England to prepare guidance to inform consideration of these impacts and to provide a consistent approach to developers preparing Heritage, Townscape and Landscape Visual Impact assessments (HTLVIAs).
Historic England have published 'New study of Windsor Castle’s Setting will help inform growth in Slough'. This research was commissioned by Historic England in partnership with Slough Borough Council,. The report’s findings can be used to guide new development in Slough town centre – to ensure sustainable growth can be achieved while enhancing and protecting views to and from Windsor Castle.
To assist developers who need to obtain views from the Windsor Castle Estate, a series of verified viewpoint documents have been agreed with Historic England, with accurate photography of these views being updated seasonally. The documents containing these views give the background data to help understand the context of the views and we encourage you to use these documents to avoid contacting the Windsor Castle Estate.
To obtain copies of the viewpoint documents, please contact the Planning Team.
We also suggest developers seek guidance from Planning Officers on which view to use to form part of their individual assessments through pre-application advice planning discussions.
