Steps to becoming a registered childminder
Becoming a registered childminder with Ofsted:
- usually takes six months, but timescales can vary depending on individual circumstances
 - can typically cost around £600.
 
What you will need to do to get registered
- Book your place on one of our free information briefing sessions.
 - Demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the EYFS, including how to implement it as part of your registration with Ofsted.
 - Complete a 12-hour Paediatric First Aid course.
 - Apply for Enhanced DBS checks for you and everyone in your household over the age of 16.
 - Apply to Ofsted and pay the registration fee.
 - Complete a Health Declaration form.
 - Have an Ofsted registration visit at your home.
 
Registering with a Childminder Agency
Each Childminder Agency is registered with Ofsted and offers a different pathway to registration. You will need to contact the Agencies directly for information on their services and costs.

Important Information
Before you apply for registration as a childminder, please contact your Mortgage Provider or Landlord/Letting Agent (if renting) to check you can run a business from your home.
You will also need to contact Slough Planning Department to apply for a Lawful Development Certificate or Planning Consent to run a childcare business from domestic premises.
