Summer Reading Challenge

This year’s summer reading challenge, Silly Squad, is a celebration of fun, happiness and laughter with a focus on funny books.

Join the Silly Squad [logo plus all the characters giraffe, pony, panda, frog and penguin all dressed up for the summer] Children aged 4+ can chuckle their way through the summer, but this year the challenge is completely online! You can sign up online RIGHT NOW and set your own challenge goals on the Reading Agency's Silly Squad website. The site also includes some brilliant info for schools and parents in the School Zone and Home Zone with a selection of Silly Squad resources, as well as blogs and news articles.

Please be aware: children should only sign up online with a parent or guardian's permission and your parent or guardian will need to make a linked summer reading challenge account to confirm that the young person can take part. Finding it a bit confusing? Check out our video Join the Silly Squad ONLINE for a complete guide.

This means parents will need an email address. Don't have an email address? We have some resources to help you out!

There will also be some other challenges and activities happening throughout the summer for you to take part in. Keep your eyes peeled including sending in your book reviews, jokes and more! You'll find lots of activities for kids on Slough Libraries Facebook every week.

This summer, because libraries are not yet open, you are allowed to read anything and everything as part of the challenge. If you have library books at home you can read those. You can also read books you already own, comic books and magazines!

Want something new to read for free? Why not check out some of our e-reading offers including e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines and e-comics?
