History season continues at Slough

Local and Family History Events happening in The Curve in May There are two themes to our upcoming history events - local and family history and the untold history of India in World War 1.

If you're interested in local and family history look out for the following events:

  • Family History Sources with Berkshire Record Office
    Find out more about how you can trace your own family tree
    Wednesday 10 May 2pm - Book tickets for Family History Sources
  • Victorian Prisons with Mark Stevens
    Find out what prisons were really like in Victorian times - based on research done by Mark Stevens at Berkshire Record Office
    Friday 19 May 11am - Book tickets for the Victorian Prisons talk
  • Slough Between Wars
    Local historian Grant Masom returns to answer the question about what Slough was really like between the two Great wars. Was it a great time for our town as The Times said, or was it a terrible place to be as described by Betjeman? Thursday 25 May 2pm - Book your place for Slough between wars

India in World War One

Honouring the involvement of India in World War One this May at The Curve This May we are celebrating and honouring the hidden history of India's involvement in World War 1.

There will be an exhibition on the first floor - Legacy of Valour from 1 May till 23 May - plus two talks

  • The involvement of Indians in World War One and its aftermanth by Inderpal Dhanjal
    One of the organisers of the Legacy of Valour project, Inderpal will be giving a wider historical context to Indian involvement in the Great War
    Saturday 13 May 11am
  • For King and another country by Shrabani Basu
    Discover the hidden history of Indians in World War 1 as part of the Thames Valley History Festival
    Monday 22 May 2pm - Book tickets for Shrabani Basu
